 Editing in Blue Hole helps keep the suspense high. Quick cuts between scenes keep the audience on edge, while longer shots let the tension build. Slow-motion is used in important moments to make them feel scarier, and abrupt cuts create jump scares that surprise the audience. The editing style makes the film feel like it’s always building towards something intense, keeping the viewer hooked and nervous. Other films in the thriller/horror genre, like The Babadook, Get Out, Hereditary, A Quiet Place, and The Witch, use similar techniques to build fear. These films, like Blue Hole, create tension by focusing on atmosphere and making the characters feel vulnerable. This video provided me with great tips on how to create a great short film. One would be to write a story based on the resources you already have, it's more effective to create something with what's available to you. Another tip was crafting setups and payoffs to add depth to my narrative, making the story more engaging for the audience. Not relying on the predictable, subverting expectations was another note on building up great suspense and even a good plot twist if wanted. A great example was using silence in a potential jump-scare moment, allowing the tension to build elsewhere. Maintaining a consistent tone through camera angles, lighting, and wardrobe gives the film a sense of coherence. Sound being often neglected, is very critical to a film's success, the video provided ways to make sure that sound was incorporated such as intentional conventional sounds to the genre, suspense track or anything that adds depth.  Part 1: Some take aways from this video is that both La Jetée and 12 Monkeys touch on themes of time, human connections and memory. La Jetée expresses these themes through a series of still images and a narrative voice. 12 Monkeys uses a more dynamic narrative with a plot around a time travel mission. La Jetée can be seen as a photo novel, using the pictures to create an atmosphere that shows the nature of time. The video states how the film 12 Monkeys used the fundamentals from this film and adapted a more complex plot, characters and deeper structure. This video provided with me with some fundamentals that could be used inside of my film such as playing with visuals and audio. Visuals and audio can work together to create an strong atmosphere even though there may be no one talking.  Short Film: My take away from the short film is that this story happened in a post-apocalyptic world, seeing that the set was in a rundown place resembling a junkyard which is a convention of post-apocalyptic movies. My interpretation of the plot is that the tiny men that are numbered from numbers 1-9 are trying to live in this post-apocalyptic world while being hunted by a monster. We see when the number 5 is killed, the monster steals his soul, but before 5 is killed he hands 9 something that causes flashbacks. We see towards the end of the film that when that device is connected to another one that the monster had, each of the souls are freed. Things that I noticed quickly in this short film is that there was a constant soundtrack being played, allowing no dialogue. It added to the suspense of the story.  Pitch A: A girl with a friend turns out the friend is imaginary. Pitch B: Slumber party between girls turns to a killing.... or a suicide? Discuss Pitch A: We like this film idea because we would add a plot twist. This was a cool idea and we all thought it would be a nice twist. The problem is we would have to edit the person out the shot to make it work. We are confident in our editing skills so we feel as if the idea will be executed well.  As my second year in A-Level, I have changed some of my group members. Callie Brown is one teammate I had in AS Level, and we are continuing to work together in A Level. I think Callie is a good groupmate because I already know she's consistent and hard working. Working with her this year should be a breeze. She was a really good director in our previous project. I am very confident in her skills because we worked together before. I can guarantee that we will get our jobs done. My new teammates are Janiah Charles and Natalie Obando. I feel pretty confident that both girls are going to be very hard working as well. Janiah had received the same grade as me last year, which is a C. I feel more confident in her knowing that she really did try and succeed. Janiah showed me her film from AS Level and I truly did enjoy it.  I'm back and ready for A Level Media! I'm taking the second part of the course because I truly did enjoy AS level, and I need another aice credit. I still enjoy a variety of things such as dancing, sunsets, hanging out with her friends and sleeping. I still don't enjoy is broccoli, slow drivers, and obnoxious people. My personal mission is similar to last years, to succeed in everything I do such as being a majorette, being class of 2025 vice president, being a student in school, and being a girl in everyday life.  I still have a certain way of watching movies. Before I watch a movie I will watch multiple videos on the movies plot and ending before actually diving in. Although it may be an odd thing, I truly do enjoy knowing what the movies already about.
